Biography

Mark McClain is a choreographer and teacher. He is the current Artistic Director of the Bavarian State Theater in Coburg, Germany.
 
He was a principal dancer of The Stuttgart and Zürich Ballet Companies (under Marcia Haydee and Uwe Scholz) and guest artist with such companies as Maurice Béjart’s Ballet of the 20 Century, John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet and The Leipzig Ballet among others. He has acted as Festival Director and headed different ensembles on many international endeavors. Has taught and set different ballets internationally for Academies, Schools and Companies in the U.S., Japan, Holland, Portugal, Germany and Brazil.

 

Previous positions include being Ballet-Master in Leipzig, Nuremberg, Chemnitz and Lisboa, as well as Artistic Director in Mannheim at the National Theater.
 
Born in New York, he was first trained by Alfredo Corvino and then at Balanchine’s School of American Ballet. At the age of thirteen he was invited to the John Cranko Ballet School and Academy in Stuttgart, where his later professional career began.
